My niece's hair turned green. She bleached it blonde with a hair kit ...?

and with the chlorinated water her hair now has a green tint. She is young and broke, but there must be a way she can fix it on the cheap. Any hair vigilantes that might help with ideas. Please and thank you.

Yes, this is very common, and she should have been warned not to go into chlorinated water. Oh, this was a home bleach...

The bleached hair is open and absorbent, so a lot of things will get inside, some of the having a colour. Chlorine is one of them. She needs to now remove the chlorine... you don't try to remove the colour! There are special shampoos that she should have used right after being in the pool. An acidifying rinse will usually help as well: vinegar, lemon, tomato juice, etc. Careful to dilute with water.

You can use a mousse that has some pink in it (beige works) and that will help to neutralize the green somewhat.

You can also try a rinse of baking soda in water (about 1-2 tablespoons in 8 oz water) worked through the hair, and shampooed off. Follow with an acid rinse. You may need a couple of treatments to get all the green out. And she should wear a swim cap if she is going into the pool again. It really helps, in so many ways.
