Rail Drop Red
So I got a random question since I started driving a lot. Let's say you stop your car on the rail road tracks.?
Because it is a red light up ahead, and let's say out of nowhere the train things are dropping and a train is approaching. What should you do? Hit the gas and try to find a open lane? Would cars in front of you move forward so you have room to get off the tracks? Can you break the things dropping down if you run them over? Should you get out of your car?
Why would you be stopped on a train track in the first place? Like at an intersection, you shouldn't enter/go onto the train track unless you can safely cross to the other side while following the traffic signals. Just because traffic is stopped up doesn't mean that you can or should block an intersection or be sitting on a railroad track.
If you do find yourself stuck, either pull ahead or reverse safely into another lane. Don't let yourself get boxed in so you don't have a way to get out of such a dangerous location. You will be liable in the case of a train hitting you, or you hitting another car just to get off of the tracks, besides the stress and bodily injury of your car being hit or hitting another vehicle to get out of the way. So don't let yourself get in that situation in the first place.
Remember, trains have a long stopping distance (on the order of miles if a heavy/long freight train), so once the RR signal light starts, even if you don't see the train, it can't stop in time to not hit you. Don't be on the tracks!
